2D Skin Rejuvenation

written by Marjorie Rothstein

How can we slow down the signs of aging when the world is speeding up?

Have you noticed how fast everything seems to be moving including the signs of aging? Have you heard that if you were traveling at warp speed in space, the aging process would slow down and when we returned to earth, everyone would have aged markedly and we would remain almost the same? You don’t have to travel on a spaceship for years to stay young; there is a way to slow down the aging process while still here on earth. It’s called preventative, utilizing non-invasive treatments that can help to remove small lines, resurface your skin while tightening the pores and increasing the collagen.

It’s amazing, the older we get the more new technologies seem to be coming out of the woodwork to help us look and feel better without intense surgery or barbaric procedures. Just recently, I had a microdermabrasion facial. I experienced microdermabrasion years ago when it first came out and there was a lot of redness and painful scraping of my skin, like sandblasting with fine particles flying all over the place to remove the dead surface skin. Now they have these great diamond tips that are very effective.

Here’s the Wiki definition of Microdermabrasion:

“Mechanical exfoliation or micro-resurfacing, is a method for facial rejuvenation that uses a mechanical medium for exfoliation along with adjustable suction to remove away the outermost layer of dead skin cells from the epidermis. It is a non-invasive procedure, which is performed in-office by a trained skin care professional.”

Microdermabrasion may be performed to decrease the appearance of superficial hyperpigmentation, photo-damage, diminish fine lines, wrinkles, and shallow acne scars, which helps to even out the texture. Removing the dead skin will aid in the penetration of skin care products by up to 50% and make-up will go on much more smoothly.

Here in Los Angeles we have an amazing assortment of Med-Spas to choose. One of my favorites is Blu Medi Spa in Sherman Oaks.

They are one of the highest rated spas in the country. The nurses are highly trained in all the latest techniques and machines. If you’re not a risk taker, this place is the one to go to, they’re well respected.

They will suggest the best treatments for your particular skin type and condition. You’re in good hands here. They suggested their 2D skin rejuvenation package. The first step was the microdermabrasion, then the Laser Genesis, from Cutera, which reduces pore size and smoothes the texture. The last part was the Photo Genesis. I had this one before and it is definitely intense. You close your eyes and there are eye covers to prevent any light penetrating. With each pulse of light, you may feel a mild, brief flash of light with a pinching sensation. With someone like me who is pain averse, I have turned down many opportunities for treatments that most would endure, but this one was not bad! The nurse was very helpful and helped me get through it. I usually imagine things to be worse than they really are and this was one of those treatments that went quickly and was not painful at all. Remember that old saying, “You have to suffer to be beautiful?” Well we are living in the 21st century and the best time to get older without being tortured! The results were instant as they age spots, sun damage, fine lines; wrinkles and lax skin disappeared to reveal a smooth, radiant glow. They suggest a series of treatments to obtain the best, long term results.
